I enjoy writing and have written quite a bit of non-fiction, fiction, articles, and music reviews. As a writer, I recommend software by Mariner Software; I use (and am a beta tester for) StoryMill and MacJournal

My music text, An Introduction to Double Bass Playing, is currently being used by the Crane School of Music. Here is the review from The Double Bassist (now part of The Strad).

While in graduate school, I reviewed CDs for the now defunct Preamp.com, covering everything from Victor Bailey to Guided by Voices. While most of that music has lost its relevance I did write two reviews of music recorded by virtuoso bassist, Mark Morton. Here are those reviews. Thresholds was reviewed for Preamp while Russian Rendezvous was reviewed by me, independently, after Preamp was closed. Mark calls my review of Thresholds, "... the most rational and informed review I read on the CD."

Thresholds (reviewed 2003)
Russian Rendezvous (reviewed 2006)

Here is an article I wrote on zen and music education.
